Finding the One: A Vintage Pear-Shaped Engagement Ring Story | Jack Weir & Sons

Kendall & Kerns: Her One-of-One Ring

Kendall first discovered Jack Weir & Sons in the most Kendall way possible: browsing online while brushing her teeth. She clicked onto our page after seeing an incredible sapphire ring and, about ten minutes later, found herself deep in a complete rabbit hole of vintage and estate jewelry.

At some point, she remembers thinking, “I don't even care where they are at this point. New York, London, Paris—I'm going.”

Then she looked at our address.

We were closer to home than she expected.

A short time later, Kendall came into our showroom and immediately took an interest in a one-of-one pear-shaped, collet-style engagement ring set in platinum and yellow gold. It was a special piece we had in store, and we were curious who the lucky owner would eventually be.

Finding a Ring That Felt Like Her

Kendall spearheaded her own search for an engagement ring. She knew she wanted something that felt personal—something with a sense of history and a story of its own.

She has always loved antiques, and she was drawn to pieces that felt as though they had lived a life before finding their way to her. As an LA-based stylist with impeccable taste, she wanted something timeless, but not predictable.

Something that would make people tilt their head and take a second look.

At the beginning of her search, she was, as most people are, all over the board. But two ideas continued to anchor her: an antique ring with a Georgian setting or a ring surrounded by emeralds.

Then she saw the pear-shaped collet-style ring.

It was surprisingly not what she thought she would choose.

But it was the one.

There was something about the shape, the yellow gold, and the distinctive setting that felt immediately right. Not because it checked every box she had started with, but because it felt like something she could see herself wearing forever.

As Kendall put it, she wanted a ring that felt like it had always belonged on my hand.”

And somehow, this one did.

Ring That Makes You Look Twice - About Pear-Shaped Diamond Rings and Collet Settings

Part of what makes Kendall's ring so distinctive is the way its details come together.

The pear-shaped diamond has an elongated silhouette, defined by a graceful point and a broad, beautifully faceted body. Its shape gives the ring an elegant contour, while the stone's faceting creates the brilliance and scintillation that immediately draw the eye.

But the setting is what gives the ring its unmistakable character.

The diamond is held in a dramatic collet-style mount, framed by a sculptural darkened platinum surround that rises around the stone. Projecting platinum claws—or retaining tabs—extend along the perimeter, creating an architectural outline around the diamond.

The effect is graphic and striking.

The darkened platinum emphasizes the luminous diamond at the center, drawing attention to its impressive scale, intricate faceting, and graceful shape. Rather than simply disappearing beneath the stone, the setting becomes an important part of the design itself.

The Proposal

Kendall is a bit of a private extrovert, so she always knew she wanted the proposal itself to be intimate—to belong just to her and her now-fiancé, Kerns.

She had no idea what was happening.

It felt like any other day with her best friend during a little beach escape. Then what she thought was dinner became something else entirely.

Kerns had secretly flown her family across the country.

Her friends and family had been put to work.

And while Kendall thought she was simply heading to dinner, the people closest to her were quietly preparing the biggest surprise of her life.

The proposal was just for the two of them.

The celebration was for everyone.

What followed was the most beautiful engagement party, filled with the people she loved most—made possible by a secret that Kerns had managed to keep all the way through.

The One

The best engagement rings are not always the ones you expect to choose.

Sometimes, you begin looking for a particular style, era, or gemstone. You have an idea of what you want. Then, somewhere along the way, you find something that feels entirely different—and somehow entirely right.

For Kendall, it was a pear-shaped, collet-style ring in yellow gold.

A one-of-one jewel with a sense of history, a timeless silhouette, and just enough unexpectedness to make you look twice. When you find the one that feels like it was meant for you, there is something wonderful about knowing that no one else can have that exact ring.

Most importantly, it felt like her.

We believe the most special jewels are the ones that become part of your story. The pieces that feel personal from the moment you find them, then become even more meaningful with every year that follows.
