About this Item: Embrace the romantic allure of Roman mythology with this Neoclassical carved agate brooch. At its heart is a finely carved carnelian agate cameo portraying a tender scene: a cherub, symbolizing Eros, plays whimsically with a butterfly, alluding to his enamored feelings for Psyche. This touching tableau is illuminated by a constellation of over two hundred rose and senaille cut diamonds, their ethereal sparkle elegantly complemented by the soft luster of a bevy of seed pearls. Though the cameo hails from France around the 1860s, the brooch hints at a previous life as a hairpin from the dawn of the 20th century, a testament to its enduring charm and the transformative power of jewelry. Its generous dimensions make it not just an accessory, but a statement of history and elegance.
